What an awesome CNC machine this was to build. And even more fun to learn to operate!
This machine is a low cost 5 axis CNC hot wire cutter designed to create large 3D objects from foam very quickly. By controlling the position and height of the two towers the wire can be passed through the block of foam over and over as the block is rotated by the built in rotary table.
At first it looks like nothing is happening. But then you pickup the block and shake away all of the offcuts, and a huge 3D object emerges from the scrap!
