Kansas City Edition - Constructed but not installed - February 2023
This was a pop-up experience associated with the 2023 Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.
We were retained by Mirror NYC to build and install a ‘Kraft Mac And Cheese Comfort Wall’ in a unoccupied storefront in Kansas City’s Country Club Plaza shopping district. Another firm in Philadelphia was hired to do the same task there. Each of us were going to be 100% built a blank color matched blue wall by the day of the Superbowl.
Whichever city lost the Superbowl would complete the installation overnight by applying the vinyl graphics package and the foam ‘noodle’ with puppetered arms.
So the morning after the 2023 Superbowl, Philadelphia awoke to find a giant foam Kraft noodle ready to give them a comforting hug. And Kansas City awoke to a random blank wall painted in the official color of Kraft Mac and Cheese.
I did all the sitework and drawings to build the blanking wall in the retail space and the positions behind it for the puppeteer. I later found out that the team in Philadelphia requested our drawings, shop plans, and paint color matches from the client, then used them to their own edition of the installation.
So while the Kansas City version of my work never opened, the Philadelphia version built from my drawings without my knowledge… did.
Sometimes projects are just this weird. The resulting Tik Toc videos are pretty wonderful.
